This year the LH Rather band will have many opportunities for our students to participate in events to show off their performing skills and to compete.
We will start the performance year by playing at three of the home junior high football games. Our other full-band performances include our Christmas Concert, UIL Concert and Sightreading Concert, and Spring Concert.
Individual performance opportunities include Region Band auditions, Solo and Ensemble Contest, and Tuba Christmas. Students may get help from Mr. Morgan any morning before school, by appointment during the last part of lunch, or after school most days. In addition to in-class help, students will have the opportunity to get help with Mr. Morgan before or after school to help them prepare for these events. Any eighth grade brass player who is interested can get the music to practice and go to the Tuba Christmas. Baritone and tuba players play their regular instruments; trombone players can learn baritone, and trumpet or horn players can learn treble clef baritone. Unfortunately, we just don't have time for woodwind or percussion players to learn a completely new instrument for them to be able to participate in the Tuba Christmas.
All students who are eligible to compete at our UIL Concert and Sightreading contest will qualify to go on the reward trip to Six Flags at the end of the year on Memorial Day Monday. Last year, more than 45 students went on our Reward Trip -- this year, we want the entire band to go!
