Mr. Morgan's Photo

Meet LH Rather band director is Stephen Morgan. I went to high school at Sulphur Springs High School.  I have a BMEd degree from East Texas State University and a MMEd degree from the University of Oklahoma.  I have two children and two grandchildren.

My office phone number is (903) 640-5754.  The best time to reach me in my office at LH Rather is before 8:30 or after 2:30.

My school e-mail address is: stephen.morgan@bonhamisd.org. I usually check my e-mail first thing in the morning, and again once school is out for the day.

I am a pragmatic teacher at heart and I tend to teach in whatever mode my students seem to understand the most and the fastest. I cover math and science as it relates to what we are playing, and I cover even more history and geography as those subjects always have strong connections to the music we are studying. I am a bit unconventional at heart. My students never know what I'm going to bring to class for show-and-tell when it ties in with the music we're studying.

I offer my band students many opportunities to earn a "Free Extra Credit in the Gradebook" or a "Free Door Prize" for answering questions as things come up during class.

Students should have their instrument, their music, and a pencil in band every day.  We keep a selection of the reeds and oils that students need in the band hall so that you do not have to drive to Sulphur Springs or Garland to find a music store.  We sell these supplies at our cost, and the money goes to pay for the next set of supplies.

We will use our band shirt for our uniform this year.  The band shirts should cost about $15.00 - the same price as the past two years.  We wear our band shirt at all pep rallies, football games performances, concerts, contests, band trip -- everything that we do!  This year, to help us look nicer for our formal performances, we ask that, for the Christmas Concert, UIL Contest, and Spring Concert, students wear khaki pants with their band shirt.  Cargo pants are okay as long as they are khaki colored.  Girls may choose to wear a khaki skirt rather than pants if they choose to do so.  We will leave it to each family to get khaki pants or skirt for their band student.

The 2012-13 school year will again bring an increase to the membership of the LH Rather band. What a great time for our students to be in the band! It is important that our band students practice at home as many nights each week as they can. We understand that most of our band students are involved in several other activities -- athletics, scouts, church youth groups, etc., but practicing at home on a regular basis is the homework for band class. It is very difficult for a band student to play their instrument only during class and still be able to make enough progress on that instrument to keep up with the demands of our band's performance schedule.  This year begins where we left off last year and promises to be an even better year!
