Bill Wakefield, Director of Operations for Bonham ISD presented Rotary Club an update of the I.W. Evans construction project. The project is currently on schedule despite the rains earlier this year.

Bonham ISD Rolls Out Cleaner, More Efficient Buses

Last year, Bonham ISD decided to add five propane powered school buses to their fleet. Two of these school buses, powered by clean burning propane, were received on Friday, March 1st.

Aside from being better on the environment and cheaper to fuel, propane is produced in the U.S. helping reduce dependence on foreign oil.

Pictured is one of the new buses filling up for the first time.  McCraw Propane donated the first tank fill at their location on North Center Street in Bonham.

Bonham ISD Receives Texas Comptroller's Gold Seal Award

Bonham Independent School District has been recognized by the Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle as a recipient of the Gold Seal Award for financial transparency. The Gold Seal Award highlights those entities that are setting the bar with their transparency efforts.

According to their website, the Comptroller of Public Accounts launched the Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle program in December 2009 to recognize local governments across Texas that strive to meet a high standard for online financial transparency. The organization spotlights those local governments that open their financial books to the public, providing clear, consistent pictures of spending, and sharing information in a user-friendly format that lets taxpayers easily drill down for more information.

For more information regarding the Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle and to view the entire list of Texas school districts who received the Gold Seal Award, please visit www.texastransparency.org/local/schools.php .

Welcome to Bonham ISD

Welcome to the Bonham ISD website. It is, and has always been my earnest goal that everyone associated with Bonham ISD have as their main objectives the achievement of showing pride in all we undertake! While many, if not all of us define PRIDE in a unique way; I assure you my definition is comprehensive.

Our first letter "P" is Prioritize our Action.   It is important that we never confuse being active with being productive. Only the right action at the right time will produce the positive result that embodies success. It is our goal to always move toward the achievement of the goals we have set for ourselves. We will always attempt to embrace the spirit of what Lee Iacocca meant when he wrote, " Apply yourself. Get all the education you can, but then ….do something. Don't just stand there, make it happen."

Our second letter "R" is Requiring Accountability. While the State of Texas has in place a detailed and somewhat convoluted accountability system, I firmly believe we must hold ourselves to a higher standard. Year in and year out our schools achieve high marks and praise from the Texas Education Agency. However, it is more important for us to receive high marks from one another. We continually strive to be accountable to our parents and students as well as hold them accountable to the goals of the greater community at-large.

Our third letter "I" is Inspire the Desire to be Available. Andrew Carnegie once said, "If you desire to be a success you only have to work a half-a-day. You get to choose the first 12 hours or the second 12 hours." We in Bonham ISD are constantly working to make ourselves available to parents and students. Our employees arrive early and stay late. Moreover, we are working to garner a positive relationship with the city of Bonham and the multitude of clubs and organizations that work to make Bonham a great place to work and learn.

Our fourth letter "D" is Developing a Positive Attitude. W.W. Ziege wrote, "Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude." In Bonham ISD we strive to develop an atmosphere that is void of the "stinking-thinking" that permeates the negative attitude. We believe in developing our kids, teachers, principals as well as the rest of the dedicated individuals that make our campuses a great place to work and learn. We will work tirelessly to develop an expectation to win every contest, pass every test and finish first in everything we choose to participate. Let the other guy expect to lose!  Each individual has the ability and authority to choose their attitude each day.  Negative attitudes simply reveal a negative choice!

Our last letter "E" is Envelop our Students With a Positive Atmosphere. We strive each and every day to create a positive atmosphere of fun and celebration. Long ago, a wise individual mused that "when school is fun, students will want to come and learn." I would like to extend that thought with the notion that school should be fun for everyone. That includes faculty, staff and administrators . When you come into any of our schools, I pray you hear laughter in the classrooms, hallways and offices. Laughter is the natural response to fun and achievement. Without celebration, work toward achievement becomes a drudgery that breeds resentment and a mediocre effort. We will celebrate with the same vigor that we put forth to achieve our goals.

Keep in mind, the tactics and strategies may change from year to year but the mission of seeking excellence never changes! I want to extend an invitation to each of you to come and see us at anytime and permit us to show off our school and hospitality and envelop you in a positive atmosphere. Remember, there is a cup of coffee and a smile waiting for each of you at Bonham ISD.

With Warm Regards,
Dr. Marvin Beaty
Superintendent of Schools
Bonham ISD

The Mission of the Bonham Independent School District

The BISD believes that students are individuals who learn in different ways, at different times, and at different rates. It is our responsibility to take students at their points of development and advance them to their highest potential.
